Bird of the Week [BEST OF SCP1 TEASER]

Watch this teaser on our YouTube here.

Our first season of podcasts is something I try not to think about. We were incredibly naive, and many of our conversations meander into crushingly dull territory. As a result, we’ve noticed many curious listeners get no further than our first episode before running a mile. Frankly, I don’t blame them. I’m far more proud of SCP3, our current season, because of its accessible tone. After all, our debut podcast talk was a lengthy discussion about Star Trek; a fairly alienating topic.

That said, there are flashes of fun and intrigue in SCP1.…   [continue reading]

Continuing with our changes this season, this SCP3 episode is another casual conversation. As I mentioned in the post for Conspiracy, we want to feature an expanded “cast” of associates. That’s why we introduced March last week, who’s set to be a regular guest. This week, we’ve invited MC Kat (coincidentally, another Latvian rapper) to join our conversation. Like March, her music is on our upcoming tape release. Unlike March, MC Kat is Benjamin’s wife. However, this isn’t the reason for her inclusion; even if it does ring of nepotism. I even followed that up with an article, and Star Trek has been a common subject of other guestless podcasts. Accordingly, it makes sense that I take a look at the two instalments of Star Trek: Discovery currently available to us. I’ve been an enormous fan of the franchise for the majority of my conscious life, so I hope I can provide some context and perspective beyond that of a fresher viewer.

With my overall feelings ending rather mixed, it would be pointless to sum up my thoughts in an opening soundbite.…   [continue reading]

James T. Kirk, captain of the USS Enterprise for a long tenure of live-action, animated and film series, is often remembered for a somewhat perverted propensity towards womanising.  While he remains beloved for his particular brand of cowboy diplomacy, and the thrilling adventures they would take you on, it’s something that’s always undermined him and left him stuck in the sixties with other anachronisms.  Where does this perspective even come from?  Is it really something that undercuts his character throughout all of his appearances?  If so, how has he held onto such a wide appeal despite the undeniable sexism of his approach to women?…   [continue reading]
