Rucka Rucka Ali Interview: Constructing Parody and Character

This piece ties in to a podcast I recorded with Rucka Rucka Ali, available here.

For our final interview of 2017, we invited Rucka Rucka Ali to speak to us about his creativity and craft. Since 2006, Rucka has carved out a significant legacy as the internet’s most offensive parody artist. In his music, he often makes use of racial stereotypes and observations. All too often, and erroneously, his songs are accused of racism. In fact, his output is a cleverly constructed dissection of the culture politics we all drown in. They’re also incredibly funny, with a “no holds barred” attitude that starkly contrasts the safe-space mindset of modern liberalism.…   [continue reading]

SCP3 #10 – Drugs

For this podcast episode, we took a far less rigid approach. Over the past few editions, trying to corral my co-hosts into a workable structure has proven a waste of time. Therefore, I decided to throw caution to the wind and let the conversation evolve naturally. I’m a lot happier the results, though I’m still far from my dream of a “perfect podcast”. Perhaps, as time passes, it will just be a matter of chipping away at the mistakes of youth. With that in mind, I shall remain steadfast in my quest.

Both Benjamin and Katy join me in my endeavour for this episode of SCP3.…   [continue reading]

Rhys from Goldie Lookin Chain Interview

This article ties in to a podcast I recorded with Rhys from GLC, available here. I also previously interviewed his bandmate, Eggsy, which you can find here.

Last month, Goldie Lookin Chain released Fear of a Welsh Planet. It’s an album that continues their trend of hilarious, but relatable, hip-hop. To find out more on its creation, and the evolution of GLC across a lengthy career, I spoke to Rhys (also known as P. Xain). As the member responsible for almost all of the group’s music and production, he’s been deeply ingrained from their earliest beginnings.

Aside from Goldie Lookin Chain, Rhys has put out a number of intriguing solo releases.…   [continue reading]

Bird of the Week [BEST OF SCP1 TEASER]

Watch this teaser on our YouTube here.

Our first season of podcasts is something I try not to think about. We were incredibly naive, and many of our conversations meander into crushingly dull territory. As a result, we’ve noticed many curious listeners get no further than our first episode before running a mile. Frankly, I don’t blame them. I’m far more proud of SCP3, our current season, because of its accessible tone. After all, our debut podcast talk was a lengthy discussion about Star Trek; a fairly alienating topic.

That said, there are flashes of fun and intrigue in SCP1.…   [continue reading]

SCP3 #07 – Trolls

For this episode of SCP3, our third season of podcasts, we invited my dad back onto the show. In his previous appearances, he acted as a sage-like elder; keeping Benjamin and I grounded. He’s also, usually, inappropriately vulgar for someone of his age. Along with March and Katy, Dad will be joining us for several episodes of this season. This time, he shows some restraint. As SCP3 develops, though, I’m certain the truth of his intimidating bonhomie will quickly unfurl. Perhaps it was merely the topic at hand, which engrossed us all in a conversation exceeding two hours in length.…   [continue reading]

The Choice is Yours (SCP Mini)

It’s been some time since we’ve released an SCP Mini. Therefore, I may as well go over their concept once more before I introduce our latest. Using dialogue from our podcast episodes, Benjamin creates short, compressed versions set to edited footage. They allow us to focus on a particular subject, and accentuate key points and humour. In addition, they’re an excellent way for Benjamin to express his developing skill for video editing. Though they’ve only ever pulled in pathetically small view counts on our YouTube, they’re among our personal favourite content.

For this SCP Mini, Benjamin has used a deleted “scene” from episode fourteen of our second season.…   [continue reading]

Maddox Interview: F*ck Whales, Video Games and Criticism

This article ties in to a podcast I recorded with Maddox, available here.

George Ouzounian, better known as Maddox, has built his brand on the internet for twenty years. Beginning with The Best Page in the Universe in 1997, the project has grown into a number of different mediums. Primarily, Maddox considers himself a writer and satirist. Yet, he’s always made an effort to craft content for various platforms. While maintaining a consistent and practised tone, Maddox now produces podcasts, animation, comics and YouTube videos. He’s even currently working on a video game. Though all of his output is faithful to the core of his character, his outspoken penmanship inspires it all.…   [continue reading]

Besides our formal interview guests, Benjamin and I have previously invited two other participants to join in this season. For our second episode, Conspiracy, we introduced March. In his appearance, March brought a new youthfulness to the show as he took us through his burgeoning obsession with conspiracy theories. In the following edition, Birds, MC Kat graced us with a female perspective for the first time. Both March and MC Kat will have regular slots across SCP3, along with a number of others as the season evolves.

We’ve been eager to test the dynamics between various guest combinations this time.…   [continue reading]

Caedmon: Creating Creativity (Maurizio Fusillo Interview)

This article ties in to a podcast I recorded with Maurizio Fusillo, the creator of Caedmon, available here.

At Secret Cave, we’ve always had an obsession with the output of artificial intelligence. Across a variety of fascinating bots and other projects, it’s been shown that their artwork is more than worthy of scrutiny. Since the birth of the internet, and the entropic prevalence of technology over the past century, the capabilities of such bots has improved at a vast rate. It’s allowed certain older ideas, about the creation of art without emotion, to be explored in the depth they deserve.…   [continue reading]

SCP3 #02 – Conspiracy

Click here to hear SCP3 #02 on YouTube.

In our previous season of podcasts, the focus shifted almost entirely toward interviews. Except for SCP2‘s opening and finale episodes, the series featured nothing but conversations with some of our influences. This was in stark contrast to SCP1, which instead took the form of structured talks between our writers. This time, we wanted to strike a balance between the two approaches. As a result, interviews will drop intermittently throughout this third season. Otherwise, it will consist of dialogues similar to SCP1. The key difference is a more casual and playful atmosphere.…   [continue reading]
