Issue #2: Breath: General Updates and News

This year at Secret Cave, we’re changing our pace somewhat. Following the release of our first zine last year, we’ve already started work on a second issue. It’s important to us that Issue #2: Breath is an improvement in every possible way on our original venture. As such, certain elements of our output are likely to slow down until our estimated release date in April.

In no way does that mean our domain content will stop. In fact, Benjamin and I already have numerous drafts that we’re working on. However, we have made our next zine a conscious priority. Unfortunately, this is likely to have an impact on the amount of posts here.…   [continue reading]

Volume #1: Birth [DOWNLOAD AND STREAM]

This URL initially linked to a detailed history of Volume #1: Birth, which is still online here.

After several months of putting the package together, Volume #1: Birth is finally available for download. In addition, zine subscribers should receive their physical copies within a fortnight of this post. Bringing this to you is a very proud moment for us. It contains music from both Secret Cave co-founders, regular contributors (like March and MC Kat) and several guests. Nick LutskoProfessor Elemental, Vic Berger and DJ Douggpound all have tracks on this release, following on from our podcasts with them.…   [continue reading]

Volume #1: Birth – A Musical Gift for Zine Subscribers

This is an outdated post with links to now dead forms. Volume #1: Birth is now available on Bandcamp here!

This is something we’ve been planning and working on in the background since we announced our physical zine. While Issue #1: Birth is 100% free, including postage and packaging, we want to give all we can to subscribers. Therefore, anyone who’s signed up will also receive an equally free tape of music and MP3 download of the contents. For those who don’t make it onto our mailing list before publication, Volume #1: Birth will be available on Bandcamp. However, this initial run of tapes is going to be unique.…   [continue reading]

Secret Cave Office Chart [SEPTEMBER 2017]

It feels incredible to be writing here again. For those who don’t know, or didn’t notice, our domain went offline for almost an entire week. This, obviously, left Benjamin and I distraught and distressed for the down-time’s duration. It effected every area of our output, with it even coming close to causing a permanent cessation. Despite such devastating circumstances, we’ve been able to move past it confidently in readiness for our next phase. As a result of the issues with the domain, a backlog of tasks requiring completion has built up. An Office Chart is well overdue, though I did state in the previous one that it might be the last.…   [continue reading]

Two SCP Minis: David Liebe Hart and Professor Elemental

This week saw the release of two more SCP Minis; compressed editions of our podcasts curated by Benjamin. In these, we’ve drawn from interviews we conducted with David Liebe Hart and Professor Elemental. In certain ways, these act as short-form signposts to the original conversations. That said, we try wherever we can to make sure they stand on their own. Because our guests are often so insightful on a variety of topics, much of their commentary is comfortable in its own context. However, sometimes a guest can be so enigmatic, as a whole, that grander threads appear in their dialogue:

David Liebe Hart on Aliens

When I spoke to Liebe Hart for our podcast, his appearance was so surreal and unique that it birthed a 3,000 word article on the nature of his personality.…   [continue reading]

The Great Developmental Professor Elemental

This article ties in to a podcast I recorded with Paul Alborough (Professor Elemental), available here.

In our last podcast, we spoke to David Liebe Hart. In that particular case, we had a personality on our hands who’s very difficult to detach from his character. The flip-side of that is a creative whose use of a character is acutely deliberate. That’s precisely the bill that Paul Alborough, best known for his popular Professor Elemental alter-ego, fits in spades. However, Alborough is a vast talent regardless of such construction. He calls to mind an important truth; something we’re all guilty of in an age of information.…   [continue reading]

Secret Cave Office Chart [MAY 2017]

I don’t know about the Secret Cave readership, but i’m really getting a lot out of making these playlists. Last month‘s had an odd tinge to it, mainly thanks to some personal mishaps in my life at the time. After wishing myself luck for this month, it does indeed appear that things have taken a turn for the better. Oddly, May’s Office Chart has resulted in a slightly darker tone overall. Still, I feel I’ve hit on a nice coherence for this one. I’ve also managed to feature Juiceboxxx‘s latest single, as a follow-up to his interview with us last week.…   [continue reading]
