Issue #2: Breath: General Updates and News #2

You can find some more background on Issue #2: Breath here!

Since posts have definitely been slower here this year, I feel it’s only fair that we show why. We stated our heavier concentration on Issue #2: Birth in this previous post. But, with so much going on in the background, it’s about time we gave an update.

Several contributions have already come in, and received full page formats from Benjamin and I. Neither of us can believe the quality of submissions this time around, and we’ve tried to live up to that with our designs. Last week, we worked on a three-page spread exploring the art of Katrine Claassens.…   [continue reading]

An Introduction
(welcome to the wonderful world of entertainment)

Petey stood perspiring, rubbing his porky and ill-defined pinkies together in angst, fearful but energized. Let’s proceed to paint this picture with all the full wonder and respect it commands, for the room in which Petey shook – not entirely out of disturbance, but more anticipation – was so unlike any enclosed space you have ever entered. The only thing known to the average human, like you or I, that could even approach the decoration, architecture or general ambience of that cavernous chamber is what hallucinogenic drug users may find in an un-enclosed clearing.…   [continue reading]

For this podcast episode, we took a far less rigid approach. Over the past few editions, trying to corral my co-hosts into a workable structure has proven a waste of time. Therefore, I decided to throw caution to the wind and let the conversation evolve naturally. I’m a lot happier the results, though I’m still far from my dream of a “perfect podcast”. Perhaps, as time passes, it will just be a matter of chipping away at the mistakes of youth. With that in mind, I shall remain steadfast in my quest.

Both Benjamin and Katy join me in my endeavour for this episode of SCP3.…   [continue reading]

Volume #1: Birth [DOWNLOAD AND STREAM]

This URL initially linked to a detailed history of Volume #1: Birth, which is still online here.

After several months of putting the package together, Volume #1: Birth is finally available for download. In addition, zine subscribers should receive their physical copies within a fortnight of this post. Bringing this to you is a very proud moment for us. It contains music from both Secret Cave co-founders, regular contributors (like March and MC Kat) and several guests. Nick LutskoProfessor Elemental, Vic Berger and DJ Douggpound all have tracks on this release, following on from our podcasts with them.…   [continue reading]

For this episode of SCP3, our third season of podcasts, we invited my dad back onto the show. In his previous appearances, he acted as a sage-like elder; keeping Benjamin and I grounded. He’s also, usually, inappropriately vulgar for someone of his age. Along with March and Katy, Dad will be joining us for several episodes of this season. This time, he shows some restraint. As SCP3 develops, though, I’m certain the truth of his intimidating bonhomie will quickly unfurl. Perhaps it was merely the topic at hand, which engrossed us all in a conversation exceeding two hours in length.…   [continue reading]

Issue #1: Birth: A Final Announcement and Update

Several months ago, we announced our first physical zine. Since that announcement, Benjamin and I have been working hard to make Issue #1: Birth a reality. On the same day as this post’s publication, we’ve made our final order for the complete batch of debut issues. Once we’ve received them, we’ll send out individual copies to our subscribers. With its release just a few days away, this post will take a look at each of the zine’s talented contributors. In addition, I’ll detail a few of the difficulties we’ve encountered in the process, and how they’ve helped us to develop.…   [continue reading]

SCP3 #05 – Latvia

Besides our formal interview guests, Benjamin and I have previously invited two other participants to join in this season. For our second episode, Conspiracy, we introduced March. In his appearance, March brought a new youthfulness to the show as he took us through his burgeoning obsession with conspiracy theories. In the following edition, Birds, MC Kat graced us with a female perspective for the first time. Both March and MC Kat will have regular slots across SCP3, along with a number of others as the season evolves.

We’ve been eager to test the dynamics between various guest combinations this time.…   [continue reading]

Continuing with our changes this season, this SCP3 episode is another casual conversation. As I mentioned in the post for Conspiracy, we want to feature an expanded “cast” of associates. That’s why we introduced March last week, who’s set to be a regular guest. This week, we’ve invited MC Kat (coincidentally, another Latvian rapper) to join our conversation. Like March, her music is on our upcoming tape release. Unlike March, MC Kat is Benjamin’s wife. However, this isn’t the reason for her inclusion; even if it does ring of nepotism. The truth is, obviously, that Katy (as she’s generally known) is a talented and interesting person in her own right.…   [continue reading]

SCP3 #02 – Conspiracy

In our previous season of podcasts, the focus shifted almost entirely toward interviews. Except for SCP2‘s opening and finale episodes, the series featured nothing but conversations with some of our influences. This was in stark contrast to SCP1, which instead took the form of structured talks between our writers. This time, we wanted to strike a balance between the two approaches. As a result, interviews will drop intermittently throughout this third season. Otherwise, it will consist of dialogues similar to SCP1. The key difference is a more casual and playful atmosphere.…   [continue reading]

Volume #1: Birth – A Musical Gift for Zine Subscribers

This is an outdated post with links to now dead forms. Volume #1: Birth is now available on Bandcamp here!

This is something we’ve been planning and working on in the background since we announced our physical zine. While Issue #1: Birth is 100% free, including postage and packaging, we want to give all we can to subscribers. Therefore, anyone who’s signed up will also receive an equally free tape of music and MP3 download of the contents. For those who don’t make it onto our mailing list before publication, Volume #1: Birth will be available on Bandcamp. However, this initial run of tapes is going to be unique.…   [continue reading]
