Since Benjamin and I recorded a bonus podcast detailing our first tape release, we thought we’d do a longer episode on Issue #1: Birth itself. Throughout this conversation, we discuss the zine page by page. We wanted to give some of the background behind the talents involved, and why we chose them. Each of the artists provided wonderful work, and deserves a spotlight. There are also some good stories behind some of our meetings. Secret Cave Podcast S02E01: Gay

As the first official episode of the new season, Lee thought it best that we open with something ridiculously divisive and offensive. He’s still not sure why.

Anyway, we have a protracted discussion about the use of the word “Gay” and terminology in general. We also spiral off and talk about drugs, and have an argument about numbers. Lee introduces our new segment, “Show and Tell”, where we each bring in one talking point and have an argument.

Muddied Waters: Why Batman Doesn’t Matter Anymore

Despite the extremely harsh title, it’s worth mentioning that i’m a huge fan of the Batman mythos.  It seemed obvious to me, from a young age, that he was the coolest and most interesting superhero.  Others somehow missed the mark; either too unbelievable, dull or derivative.  As such, I followed the Caped Crusader with growing intrigue as I got older.  Reaching a peak in my early twenties, I even once tried to write my own Batman yarn (one of those projects best left to rest).  None of this is an attack on the concept or, for the most part, execution of the character.  …   [continue reading]
